The Medlin Group is a management and leadership consulting company that focuses exclusively on people, primarily leaders and their teams, who are responsible for process and execution. We deliver our results in three ways – through firsthand interactions with individuals, through team sessions, and through written reports.
Nothing we do is off-the-shelf or pre-determined because we always start by listening. You wouldn’t be considering outside resources if you didn’t have something already in mind – either a problem you need help solving or an opportunity you need support achieving. That’s where we begin – with what matters most to you.
Our proven methodologies, decades of real-world experience, and keen listening skills deliver personalized results for what you are trying to accomplish. While there’s a process behind everything we do, it’s always customized first to your needs, your timeframe, and your outcomes. Concentrating on people interaction, as we do, mandates excellent communication – between you and us and, of equal importance, between you and those with whom you interface. We offer leaders a safe place to talk through what they really think about their business and the people that work for them.
Our collective business and operational backgrounds offer supplemental, practical viewpoints. Our competencies come from experience and our cautions come from battle scars. We turn those combined discussions into actionable plans for addressing the human side of the equation identifying what needs to happen with the people involved so that the outcomes are achieved. We’re a consulting firm that views each client as unique, each person as valuable, and each opportunity as distinctive.
We listen first. We listen to what you want. We listen to what you think is happening. We listen to what pleases you and what bothers you. We weigh what you need against what we know we can deliver. Then we put together a plan designed specifically for your organization and the identified priorities. The plan is a written Scope of Work, a blueprint that plays back what we heard, what should be done, and the people, resources, timing, and investment required from both your side and ours. The Scope of Work typically includes a “Go / No-Go” decision after the first suggested milestone. This is a place where you can opt out without any strings attached. If you choose to move forward, we go to work.
The initial step usually involves listening to others in your organization. We repetitively find that people in the organization already have some answers; they are simply waiting to be asked and heard. Sometimes there is immobilization because people don’t know where things are headed; the direction is unclear. In other situations, the answers are being muted because there is distrust, fear, or dissent that impedes individuals from wanting to work together. Our objective is to uncover what’s really going on and address the interpersonal issues first. If these are not solved initially, subsequent business plans or processes will falter.
Once there is clear identification of the current situation, we offer you another choice – we can work with you to address the matters or we can turn the information in written form over to you to handle on your own. We want to transfer knowledge so you don’t need us anymore. We don’t want to be your consultants for life. The best mutual measure of success is: Did you get what you wanted so that you can own it, act on it, and achieve you objectives?
These are challenging times. There is stiff competition for good people who can execute. There are relentless adversaries who would like to steal your ideas, your clients, or your market position. If you’ve got a solid, positive direction going now, you need to assess its scalability and grow. If you’re currently struggling, you already know you can’t stay there. Either way, the difference is what you do with what you have and what you need to fill in the gaps.
We believe that people matter before processes or products. We believe that good people can do great things. We believe that exceptional leadership is based on a servant attitude, transparent integrity, extraordinary communication skills, and upright moral character.
Finally, a bit about us. We are devoted Christians, Americans, and Coloradans. We are a husband and wife team wholeheartedly committed to biblical marriage. We are experienced business professionals who have seen or lived through just about everything in the corporate arena. Our professional value system is identical to our personal value system – to live servant-hearted, obedient, godly lives that reflect Christ to the world around us. That is what compels us. That is what defines us. That is what satisfies us.
"For the past forty-one years, God has privileged my wife and me to pastor an underclass, mostly minority church in the inner city of Denver. The divide between that demographic and mainstream society is enormous. So many things that work for the majority culture simply do not work here. It is difficult enough for someone from the outside to accept that disagreeable reality; it is quite another thing to attempt to bridge such a gulf. Eight years ago, Ken and Judi Medlin came to us with singularly open hearts, extensive business backgrounds, and a love for Jesus Christ and the poor. In a few years, they covered interminable social distance that took us decades. And then they offered to coach and equip us with skills we never learned in seminary, much less in urban ministry. As a result, our key personnel and we now have in-depth profiles of how we function as leaders, we have a business plan, and we have been spared some potentially disastrous decisions through their counsel. They have been a literal Godsend. "
