The Medlin Group is a management and leadership consulting company that focuses exclusively on people, primarily leaders and their teams, who are responsible for process and execution. We deliver our results in three ways – through firsthand interactions with individuals, through team sessions, and through written reports.
Nothing we do is off-the-shelf or pre-determined because we always start by listening. You wouldn’t be considering outside resources if you didn’t have something already in mind – either a problem you need help solving or an opportunity you need support achieving. That’s where we begin – with what matters most to you.
Our proven methodologies, decades of real-world experience, and keen listening skills deliver personalized results for what you are trying to accomplish. While there’s a process behind everything we do, it’s always customized first to your needs, your timeframe, and your outcomes. Concentrating on people interaction, as we do, mandates excellent communication – between you and us and, of equal importance, between you and those with whom you interface. We offer leaders a safe place to talk through what they really think about their business and the people that work for them.
Our collective business and operational backgrounds offer supplemental, practical viewpoints. Our competencies come from experience and our cautions come from battle scars. We turn those combined discussions into actionable plans for addressing the human side of the equation identifying what needs to happen with the people involved so that the outcomes are achieved. We’re a consulting firm that views each client as unique, each person as valuable, and each opportunity as distinctive.
We listen first. We listen to what you want. We listen to what you think is happening. We listen to what pleases you and what bothers you. We weigh what you need against what we know we can deliver. Then we put together a plan designed specifically for your organization and the identified priorities. The plan is a written Scope of Work, a blueprint that plays back what we heard, what should be done, and the people, resources, timing, and investment required from both your side and ours. The Scope of Work typically includes a “Go / No-Go” decision after the first suggested milestone. This is a place where you can opt out without any strings attached. If you choose to move forward, we go to work.
The initial step usually involves listening to others in your organization. We repetitively find that people in the organization already have some answers; they are simply waiting to be asked and heard. Sometimes there is immobilization because people don’t know where things are headed; the direction is unclear. In other situations, the answers are being muted because there is distrust, fear, or dissent that impedes individuals from wanting to work together. Our objective is to uncover what’s really going on and address the interpersonal issues first. If these are not solved initially, subsequent business plans or processes will falter.
Once there is clear identification of the current situation, we offer you another choice – we can work with you to address the matters or we can turn the information in written form over to you to handle on your own. We want to transfer knowledge so you don’t need us anymore. We don’t want to be your consultants for life. The best mutual measure of success is: Did you get what you wanted so that you can own it, act on it, and achieve you objectives?
These are challenging times. There is stiff competition for good people who can execute. There are relentless adversaries who would like to steal your ideas, your clients, or your market position. If you’ve got a solid, positive direction going now, you need to assess its scalability and grow. If you’re currently struggling, you already know you can’t stay there. Either way, the difference is what you do with what you have and what you need to fill in the gaps.
We believe that people matter before processes or products. We believe that good people can do great things. We believe that exceptional leadership is based on a servant attitude, transparent integrity, extraordinary communication skills, and upright moral character.
Finally, a bit about us. We are devoted Christians, Americans, and Coloradans. We are a husband and wife team wholeheartedly committed to biblical marriage. We are experienced business professionals who have seen or lived through just about everything in the corporate arena. Our professional value system is identical to our personal value system – to live servant-hearted, obedient, godly lives that reflect Christ to the world around us. That is what compels us. That is what defines us. That is what satisfies us.
"It is my pleasure to share an unconditional and enduring recommendation for The Medlin Group. I have worked with Ken & Judi Medlin for over 20 years - first as a colleague of Ken's at AT&T and then as a client of The Medlin Group in two distinct sales leadership roles and challenges. While at AT&T, I had the opportunity to lead a turnaround of the Mid Market business segment. I engaged Ken & Judi to build a leadership framework to baseline and develop the skills of my leadership team and to establish a foundation to engage each other in teamwork to accomplish a seemingly impossible turnaround goal. This work led to significant transformation of our go to market model, selling strategy, and of course, sales management practice. Ken and Judi were instrumental in clarifying our challenges and bringing a highly customized solution including a broad array of tools, case studies, and workshops that spanned over three years together. This work created a common language, a shared understanding of our goal, and a level of teamwork that was directly related to our successful outcome - we did turnaround the business and delivered excellent results across the multiple dimensions of revenue growth, market position, customer experience and satisfaction, employee retention, accounts receivable, and profitability. In parallel to the work with our leadership team, we expanded the engagement with The Medlin Group to work with our front line team to assess ability and potential and to introduce the role-play approach into our sales development program. Ken and Judi are expert in this approach - and expended a lot of blood, sweat, and tears with our leadership and front line sales team to implement this strategy as an on-going tool in our program. In my view, this is the single most important investment a sales team can make to increase skill and effectiveness in a solutions oriented, account managed relationship with business customers. As Vice President of Sales at Bucyrus, I asked Ken and Judi to perform a leadership assessment and workshop with my new sales leadership team. Although this engagement was simpler and shorter - it set the stage for my new leadership team to tackle another seemingly impossible goal. We delivered a record result - and a sequential 44% increase in sales. Of course, there were many aspects to this performance - but the ability to function effectively as a leadership team in the face of challenging goals must start with a clear objective and a functioning leadership team - this is a sweet spot for The Medlin Group. Ken and Judi bring diverse real world leadership experience, functional know how, professional program management, and most of all - an authentic desire to help people and teams perform to their greatest potential. I am happy to recommend Ken and Judi and look forward to my next opportunity for their support and partnership! "
